About the School
For 124 years, the students and Buckhorn School community have celebrated a rich, Appalachian heritage. Nestled in the scenic mountains of eastern Kentucky, Buckhorn School serves the educational needs of approximately 330 students grades P-12.
The mission of Buckhorn School is to see every student prepared for college, career, and life.
In 2023-24, Buckhorn High School earned a prestigious "Blue" rating on the Kentucky School Report Card and finished No. 6 in the Commonwealth on the Kentucky State Assessment!
Every year for graduation services, our students follow the time-honored tradition of walking in two lines side by side across the road to the historical landmark, the Log Cathedral in Buckhorn, Kentucky. The nearly 100 year-old Log Cathedral is a favorite spot of the locals as well as many tourists visiting the Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park located directly behind the school. The pipe organ still beautifully plays "God of Our Fathers" as the organist crafts timeless artisan magic for our graduates to walk in to.
Our motto speaks for itself - "Every student counts, every moment matters!"
